Riesling is not a grape you would expect to find in Umbria, yet Barberani's grandfather Vittorio planted Rhine Riesling on the shores of Lake Corbara decades before it became a talking point. Marea is the result, an Umbria IGT white with a character all its own.

The vines grow on marl clay soil formed in the Eocene, layered with marine fossils. That geology is what gives the wine its saline, almost coastal edge, unusual for a wine grown nowhere near the sea.

Deep gold in the glass, with the spice and petrol notes classic Riesling develops, Marea is soft and lively on the palate, carrying iodine, salinity and tropical fruit.

Pour it with pasta dishes, shellfish, poached or grilled fish, fried seafood, or white meat, at 12-14°C. The wine is certified organic and vegan.
