Paolo Bea's Pagliaro 2017 is made entirely from Sagrantino grown in the namesake vineyard, at around 400 metres above sea level in the hills of Montefalco. A long maceration and slow ageing shape a deep, structured Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG, with layers of blackberry, blackcurrant, dried plum and fig, followed by spices, herbs and earthy notes. The palate is full yet balanced, with lively freshness, fine tannins and a long, persistent finish. An age-worthy Umbrian red, particularly well suited to game, roasted meats and aged cheeses.
