AGRESTI SANGIOVESE GROSSO BARBERANI UMBRIA

Agresti is made from the grape clusters that Cantina Barberani leaves behind at harvest: the smaller or less developed bunches of Sangiovese Grosso that are not yet ripe enough to be picked with the rest of the crop. Left on the bare vines, they keep ripening slowly on their own, turning into something concentrated and unusual.

Cantina Barberani picks these clusters by hand and vinifies them separately from the rest of the estate's Sangiovese Grosso. The vineyards are certified organic, and the wine itself is CCPB-certified organic and vegan. It then spends 36 months in French oak barrels, followed by three more years resting in bottle before release, enough time for it to fully come together.

The result shows dark, ripe fruit, licorice, dried herbs, bitter cocoa and sweet tobacco on the nose. On the palate it is dense yet balanced, with a firm, tight structure, a fresh herbal note and a very long finish.

Agresti pairs well with roasted or spit-cooked meats, braises, game stews, aged cheeses with real character, and good dark chocolate. It comes from a limited, numbered production, and suits drinkers who enjoy structured, slow-built reds worth cellaring.
